The theme of this year’s GIS Day event is “Discovering the World through GIS”. At the World GIS Day Expo, primary and secondary school students will attend presentations and visit booths to learn what GIS is and how to use GIS technology and equipment. Students will learn about the role of GIS in their education and career; and will interact with organizations from the private and public sectors, who will demonstrate how they are using GIS to achieve their organization’s goals. They will showcase aspects of their business related to geospatial science, technology and applications. In addition, there will be Games and Activities booths that will highlight GIS in a fun and interactive way.
Primary and secondary school students will:
- Learn what GIS is and how it is used in our daily lives
- Learn about business and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)career paths through GIS
- Network with GeoMentors
- Interact with the latest GPS technology
- Learn about Belize through GIS
- Learn how various careers use GIS
- Experience GIS through fun Games & Activities
- Learn how GIS is being used for national development
- View exhibits from local Esri users
- See presentations from students using GIS
